Game 3, Schedule for Makeup of Game 2

This week's game will be at 3:00p.m. against team MK. For those of us who had no idea where we were going last week, here's directions from the league:
Just a reminder that the games are at Ohio 900 field and not Daingerfield. Here are directions from the polo grounds were we played last year…

If you are on Ohio Drive (the road that goes past the Polo Grounds and runs along the Potomac …the polo grounds are on your left) you would follow it all the way down until you hit a "do not enter" sign. Aproximately one mile. Make a left at that stop sign. Go about 1/4 of a mile (you will see Haines Point golf course on your right) and you will have to turn. Make a left at that stop sign. Go about 300 yards, underneath of 395 and the field is on your left.

And, as it turns out, we DID have a game this past Saturday. Due to some field confusion and crappy weather, the league's decided to move a makeup game to Saturday, May 19th at 11:00.

Also: for those of you who haven't yet -- please get me a check on Saturday -- league fees are $60/person. Let us know if you're coming in the comments!

Game 2

Shrimps are (scheduled to be) back in action tomorrow at 4 against InternazionaleDC. We played them last fall, and I'm pretty sure we didn't get totally creamed, so our new and improved squad should do some damage -- if we don't get rained out. If it looks really crappy: check the weatherline.

The Polo Grounds are Located between Ohio Drive and Independence Ave. Near the FDR Memorial. Please let us know if you're planning on coming out by leaving a comment below!

Hey guys: Also a good time to remind you: Fees for our leagues are due at our next game, so everybody please bring me a check for $60 bucks. right now i only have two orders for shrimp shirts, so if anyone needs one... lemme know. i can't order till we have 12

Go shrimps!

First game recap, schedule and practice info:

Hey shrimps!

We had our first game this past weekend at Daingerfield Island, and despite a losing score of 4-1, the outdoor Shrimps looked better than we did in the fall!

We're thinking of holding a few practices outdoor before our next game in two weeks -- one definitely on Saturday in Georgetown at 10:30 a.m. (at the same place we practiced during the summer around 39th Place NW where it intersects with Calvert). This will focus on ball handling, passing and defense.

Please let us know in the comments section if you're able to make the practice! We'll be discussing our new "SHRIMPS PASSING STRATEGY" created by Scott McCarthy:

And to get you thinking defense, Maureen 'Mo Thugs' Hoch has sent along an insightful video titled 'how to defend':
VIDEO: How to Defend

ALSO: Fees for our leagues are due at our next game, so everybody please bring me a check for $60 bucks. right now i only have two orders for shrimp shirts (you can peruse our design at right), so if anyone needs one... lemme know. i can't order till we have 12

Also, also: you can always check our schedule under the "links" section to the right of the page.

Women's Soccer Clinic

Aly Hurt gave me a heads up about this clinic in the summer. A few of us did it in the winter, and it was really really helpful!

The Washington Freedom is hosting another six-week women's soccer
clinic this summer on Mondays beginning July 9. If it's anything like
the one that Caitlin, Jenn Sandhya and I attended this winter, it's
pretty rigorous and worth the investment if you have the time/interest.

Shrimps, Victorious Shrimps

Shrimps past and present:

The woebegotten Diablos finally notched their first win in a historic game last night on our glorious winter pitch -- Lafayette elementary school gymnasium!

ZZ's leg was responsible for 5 goals (including one that rolled inch-by-inch into the goal after the keeper had fallen over. Chariots of Fire rang like thunder in the background.)

Nancy had a rocket shot that escaped a diving goalie, which came amidst a record amount of shots on goal! Our Great Wall, Fang Huang was impenentrable after an early goal, greatly aided by teammates who actually played defense!

In short, it looked like soccer out there, folks -- hustling by Ed, Ryan, Jason, Jenn and, ahem, myself, kept afloat a team that really started to look like a team!

For those of you who are sitting the winter season out, be ready for a new and improved Spring team!
